Janyce Lapore’s script of her short film, “The Director”, won the 2010 “Award of Merit” athe the Los Angeles Cinema Festival of Hollywood The Los Angeles Cinema Festival of Hollywood exists to give independent filmmakers an opportunity to have their achievements judged, recognized, and awarded. The festival accepts both national and international artists, and gives 21 awards in 9 different categories. The Los Angeles Cinema Festival of Hollywood also bestows Awards of Merit for submissions in a number of other categories, including Animation, Experimental, Music Video, Student Film, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short, Narrative Feature, and Narrative Short.

Writers and filmmakers may submit between May and June each year. The price of entering depends on when participants send in their work; submissions made before the Early Bird Deadline of May 4th cost only $40, and submissions postmarked by the Late Deadline cost $15 more. Some of Hollywood’s leading celebrities have received awards from the Los Angeles Cinema Festival of Hollywood. For instance, Rosanna Arquette earned an award for Best Actress, Jean Reno won for Best Actor, and Ed Harris garnered a Best Supporting Actor award. Lapore is in good company.
